TENANTS - HOW TO GET LEGAL HELP[1]*

 

Between 60,000 and 70,000 tenants are evicted in Los Angeles County each year. 

Ø       Approximately 1300 are assisted via free legal services AND 3000 by low cost, sliding fee services and private attorneys

Ø       Less than 1% of the tenants that go to court alone win.

Ø       We urge you to seek out the following free, low cost and market rate services as listed below.

COURT HOUSE PROJECTS

The following court houses have programs to help people representing themselves: Van Nuys, San Fernando, Lancaster, Pomona, Inglewood, Long Beach and Santa Monica.  Most are open the hours the court is open and help both landlords and tenants.  None provide representation.  They will help with your Answer, but you must then hire a lawyer.

Once an eviction is filed you have these options!!! Act quickly!!!

You have 5 days to file an Answer in court. It is essential that you hire an attorney.
Spend no more than 2 days trying to get free legal help!!!

Walk in only.  First come first served.  Monday through Friday 9 to 6 PM, last client seen by 4 PM.  Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM.  $350 and $1050 depending on income.  Before you conclude that you cannot afford to pay $350, ask yourself if you can afford to: 1)lose your home; 2)have an eviction on your record; 3)owe all of the back rent being demanded; 4)pay higher rent every time.  Payment plans available early in the process.

Or hire a private attorney no later than day 4!!!!
